Objective.                        Temple: the 3rd arrondissement of Paris.

The Place des Vosges in the Marais is the oldest landscaped square in Paris. It was built by King Henry IV between 1605 and 1612. It was initially called the Place Royale. The square is an exact square of 140 by 140 meters and is surrounded by stately apartments. The famous writer Victor Hugo lived here for many years at number 6. Around the square is a berceau of espaliers, which provide pleasant shade in the summer. Benches have been placed under the trees. In the middle of the park is a fountain, which also offers cooling. There is a small sandbox for the children.
