Synthicide: Sharpers in the Dark (Quickstart)

Publisher: Will Power Games

Synthicide is a best-selling game that released in 2017. It debuted a grimdark cyberpunk setting where players take on the role of interstellar criminals known as sharpers. This quickstart guide previews the upcoming re-release of Synthicide using the Forged in the Dark system: Synthicide: Shapers in the Dark.

In this setting, the Galaxy has entered a dark age where human life has no value. Sharpers have to fight for their lives, while trying to earn enough money for food and spaceship fuel.

If you loved the original Synthicide, this is a chance to experience its galaxy in a whole new way. The planets will be updated to provide location-specific mission ideas, and the baked in faction system will bring the galaxy to life

If you’re a fan of the Forged in the Dark engine and new to Synthicide, become a backer to see how Synthicide’s grimdark, lethal cyberpunk themes are expressed in a perfectly suited system.

Six Spells: Mythos

“Mythos” is a word that evokes a certain ilk of horror that emphasize humanity’s utter isolation and inconsequence in a monstrous, unforgiving universe, in which things do go bump in the night and humans are the food or playthings of terrible entities. Most of those initial stories came directly from author H.P. Lovecraft, but other writers of his era used the Mythos with his permission and put their own stamp on this subgenre of early 20th century horror. Accordingly, the spells that appear here were inspired not just by the tales Lovecraft, but also by the work of Clark Ashton Smith. They touch on the wrongness of reality, on the ability of cultists to bend and warp it, and on humanity’s blindness to these things. This mini-publication contains six Mythos spells — Awaken Ido…

Once, it is said, the Dragon Apeiron rained fire and terror over Kos and the lands around it. Once, but no longer, and so long ago it is in the realm of fables. It is said that the wisest of the wise, the magos, the priests, struck with it a bargain. It waited in its lair in the rocky pinnacle-isle of Stongyli in the Karpathian Sea, and was sent such tribute as adventurers could only dream of. But this last not often, once per century only.  Yet the last time the tribute was sent some decades ago, to the little island eight miles south of the coastal Koan village of Kardemena, for the first time the dragon Apeiron was absent. Gone after seeming aeons, the oracles say, and none could divine where …  “To the Dragon Apeiron” is a self-standing swords-and-sorcery fantasy short story…

World of the Amazing Universe: Liquid Interfacing Nanite Composite and Plasma Metal (Super-Powered by M&M)

Publisher: LPJ Design

As technology has advanced at an explosive, unprecedented pace, materials science has struggled to keep pace. Equipment and devices for military, law enforcement, and industrial purposes depend on rugged, durable components able to withstand extremes of temperature, pressure, and other stresses. This has proven especially true for equipment used by or against super-powered individuals.

One of the greatest advances in materials science involves the use of nanite composites. The first of these and still the gold standard goes by the name of “liquid interfacing nanite composite,” otherwise known as LINC. In its inert, unprogrammed state, LINC remains in a viscous liquid form similar to that of mercury. Once programmed and exposed to a specific electrical current, a quantity of LINC assumes its desired shape, form, and function in one-one-thousandths of a second.

In most cases when a person acquires special powers, whether through mutation, happenstance, or by other means, they face a decision as to how to use those powers. Some choose to use their powers to help others and benefit society. Some choose to ignore their powers or deny their existence. Many people try to use their powers to improve their lives and to provide for themselves and their families. A small percentage, however, apply their powers to commit crimes or settle old scores.

This inevitable fact requires communities and governments to find new ways to protect their citizens and deal with super-powered criminals. While such efforts often depend on the help of heroes with powers of their own, many municipalities have no such defenders to call upon. For such circumstances, communities need people with powers to protect ordinary citizens and property.

This PDF contains everything you need to know about Liquid Interfacing Nanite Composite and Plasma Metal, in the Amazing Universe Campaign or any other superhero campaign.
